Why you might like it

  • Dungeon Overlord let players build the villain's lair instead of clearing one as a hero. Starting with a small volcanic dungeon and a few goblins, an overlord excavated rooms, mined gold, iron and crystal, crafted furniture and attracted progressively stronger monsters.
  • The management layer connected to an overworld where minions raided camps, villages and rival players for materials. Researching spells, training creatures and expanding into additional territory gradually turned a single lair into a networked underground empire.
  • Asynchronous attacks and defense gave construction practical consequences: room layout, resources and monster strength mattered when simulated rival raids arrived. It was a particularly focused browser interpretation of the Dungeon Keeper fantasy.

Things to consider

  • The original Facebook/browser service is historical and no verified official version is currently available. Fan pages that promise a return are not evidence of a launched, rights-holder-operated server.
  • Construction and resource timers were fundamental to its free-to-play social-game design. Players attracted by the dungeon theme still had to tolerate waiting, repeated collection and monetized acceleration rather than expect a continuous premium strategy campaign.
  • Raids were largely asynchronous simulations, not direct real-time control of an army inside another player's dungeon. Anyone seeking modern cooperative dungeon management, a standalone offline mode or the precise systems of Bullfrog's Dungeon Keeper should set different expectations.
