Why you might like it

  • Netmarble's ambitious open-world Marvel action RPG, built on Unreal Engine 4 and set in a genuinely inventive multiversal premise (based on the Secret Wars comic storyline) that let alternate versions of familiar heroes coexist and interact.
  • Notable for a strong launch — over 10 million global downloads and generating real buzz as one of the first Marvel games to offer a true open-world experience on mobile.
  • Its combat system and character roster (covering more than half the game's heroes activatable without paying) were generally well-received, making its eventual shutdown after just two years a genuinely surprising turn for a seemingly successful title.

Things to consider

  • The game is permanently gone — Netmarble announced closure on June 2, 2023, and shut the servers down on August 25, 2023, exactly two years to the day after its original launch.
  • Netmarble had scaled back the size of content updates seven months before the closure announcement, with no further meaningful updates materializing in that gap — a warning sign in hindsight for players who'd invested heavily.
  • No official reason was given for the shutdown despite the game's strong download numbers, illustrating how even seemingly successful live-service mobile games can be cut short by internal business decisions.
